Strength and Balance

At long last we can report that an outdoor Strength & Balance Group meeting has been arranged for 18th August at 10am at Birley Bush community Garden, weather permitting. We will get the chance to be introduced again after this long while in isolation.  We aim to start with some gentle exercise, and hope we can have another outdoor session in September before getting back into the Village Hall min October.

Please watch this space….

We demonstrate a set of simple exercises for adults who want to live life to the full.

Doing the 10 simple exercises twice a week in addition to taking a daily walk can help keep you strong, improve your balance and in turn helps you to stay active and independent in your everyday life.  The risk of falls is also reduced.

We encourage you to join us on our Friday Health Walks, which are tailored to all abilities ,and is a great way to get out and about and meet people.

All Health Walk Leaders involved in this group have undergone training by Paths for All to demonstrate these exercises and give encouragement to do them as part of your daily routine.

Jimmy Hay, who is a stalwart member of the Strength and Balance Group, regularly plays his accordion at the beginning of a session to get everyone up and marching round the hall.  During Covid 19 lockdown, Jimmy has been keeping us all entertained with tunes on our Facebook site.  Here is one of Jimmy’s tunes, and he has provided some accompanying lyrics.

Leaflets and a DVD are available and the following links will take you to a demonstration of the exercises –
